Frequently asked questions

Is an osteopathy session reimbursed by the CNS (Caisse Nationale de Santé)?

Currently, the CNS (National Health Fund) does not reimburse osteopathy sessions.

However, many complementary health insurance providers recognize the benefits of osteopathy and offer partial or substantial reimbursement for sessions carried out by a qualified osteopath (D.O.), particularly those who are members of ALDO.

We recommend that you contact your insurance provider or your osteopath directly for more information.

What is the average cost of an osteopathy session in Luxembourg?

Due to the lack of regulation of the profession in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, consultation fees generally range between €70 and €130.

Typically, 2 to 6 sessions may be required, although this varies depending on the severity and nature of the condition.

Is a medical prescription required to see an osteopath in Luxembourg?

No, a medical prescription is not required to consult a qualified osteopath (D.O.).

However, some complementary health insurance policies may require one for reimbursement purposes.

Osteopaths are trained to assess whether a patient’s condition falls within their scope of practice. If necessary, they will refer the patient to a medical doctor.

Is osteopathy suitable for children, pregnant women, and elderly patients?

Yes, osteopathy is suitable for patients of all ages:

- Infants and children: colic, sleep disturbances, reflux, cranial asymmetries (plagiocephaly)

- Pregnant women: lower back pain, pelvic pain, sciatica, digestive discomfort, ligament tension

- Adults: acute or chronic pain, stress-related conditions, functional disorders

- Elderly patients: joint and muscle pain (e.g. osteoarthritis), reduced mobility, balance issues, fall prevention

Treatments are always gentle and adapted to the patient’s age, health status, and specific needs.

What types of conditions are treated with osteopathy?

Osteopathy primarily addresses functional disorders by identifying and treating restrictions in body mobility:

- Spinal pain: lower back pain, lumbago, thoracic pain, neck pain

- Musculoskeletal pain: muscle tension, contractures, tendinitis, joint instability

- Headaches, migraines, dizziness, tinnitus

- Digestive disorders: acid reflux, constipation, diarrhea

- Sleep disturbances and chronic fatigue

- Postural or behavioral-related pain

- Pain and stiffness related to osteoarthritis

In summary, osteopathy does not treat serious diseases but helps relieve many mechanical and functional imbalances, | thereby improving quality of life.

Is there parking available?

There is no dedicated parking space for the clinic. However, it is generally easy to find parking in nearby streets or at the Parc de Merl parking area.

How long does a consultation last?

A consultation typically lasts between 30 and 45 minutes, whether for osteopathy or microkine.

Do patients need to undress during the session?

This depends on the situation.

For an initial consultation, patients may be asked to undress to their underwear to allow for a proper examination. Tight clothing can interfere with the treatment.

For microkine sessions, patients remain fully clothed.

Are there any contraindications to osteopathic treatment?

Yes, there are certain contraindications.

During the consultation, the practitioner conducts a thorough medical history and a full-body examination to identify dysfunctions and determine their origin.

This assessment ensures that there are no contraindications to osteopathic care.

If the osteopath identifies signs of a potentially serious underlying condition, the patient will be referred to a medical doctor for further evaluation.

A well-trained osteopath is able to recognize the limits of their practice and will avoid or stop any treatment that may be inappropriate or unsafe.
